Sarah,
Earlier this week I found your article about mice and lavender. I was surfing frantically because for about a week we had mice in our bathroom and kitchen and we were using humane traps, driving them five miles away and letting them go in a field. They can only stay in the humane traps for so long so I was getting up in the middle of the night to take them and put them in a bucket with a mesh top and food and water.
After much battling, my landlord came over and put down a snap trap and I saw this mouse get killed and I couldn't handle it.
I called an exterminator. His answer was much of the same tons of snap traps, poison in the basement and dead mice all over the house for my fiancee and I when we came home. I sent the exterminator away. (He was very nice)
That's when I found your mention about lavender and mice. I went and washed out my humane traps and my fiancee Eric went to the store for lavender oil. Before he got back I'd caught three more mice. We again washed away any sign of mice in the bathroom cabinets and on the floors in the kitchen and bathroom. I put the lavender oil on all the baseboards. They had been hiding under the bathroom sink and running in to the kitchen, even climbing up in the stove. I surrounded all of the appliances with lavender oil and wiped it on the shelves of the area they'd gotten in. I even dried part of a lavender plant I have in the oven. I dripped the oil every place I could think to do it.
The mice are gone. In one day. No horrible traps, no poison...just lavender. We're still looking for holes on the outside of our one hundred year old house and we're not counting the mice out yet. But, this is seriously incredible. If you have any more suggestions I will take them because I just cannot believe this. I knew lavender was relaxing but, it saved my sanity. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Laurie
